Thank you

Thank you President Bush for having the foresight to invade Iraq five years ago. I thought it was wrong to do, but you’ve proven that war is the ultimate right weapon in the fight against terror. I salute your insight and forthrightness. Now, thanks to you the Iraqi people have a democracy and today mark their fifth year of freedom from Saddam and peace in their lovely country. Thanks to your leadership we’re all driving more and spending less because you were right the oil revenues have not only financed the reconstruction of the new Iraq, but also have driven the cost of gasoline down here in the United States. To those who thought more troops would be necessary you can just thumb your nose.

I know Im supposed to be all “Love thy neighbor” and “what would St. Francis do?” about this whole situation, but I loathe the man, I truly, cannot bear to hear his voice anymore, because I know nothing but lies and disillusionment fall from his mouth.

“your flag decal won’t get you
    Into Heaven any more.
    They’re already overcrowded
    From your dirty little war.
    Now Jesus don’t like killin’
No matter what the reason’s for,
And your flag decal won’t get you
    Into Heaven any more.”

I don’t loathe the President because he’s a deeply troubled and I think very soul sick man who really needs our prayers. President Bush is not completely responsible for the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq. He’s emblematic of a mindset that allowed the United States over the last sixty years to become not a beacon of peace and freedom but one of militarism and oppression. War is big business in the United States and the largest entitlement program in the federal budget.

When all you have is a hammer everything tends to look like a nail. We’ve squandered trillions of dollars on weapons when it should have or could have gone to programs of social uplift. We should be our brothers keeper not his murderer. We euphemistically refer to our offensive weapons orientation as the Department of Defense when clearly we’re not defending anything. We are instead conquering or at least attempting to conquer much of the world. We spend more on weapons than our ten number one foes combined and we’ve got 745 military bases worldwide.

We cannot afford health care for our citizens because we’ve spent most of our money on weapons. Visit Sensible Priorities.org for more information.
